Had the case refinished and a new crystal fitted on a 1970s dress watch. The refinishing was subtle — they kept the brushed finish on the sides rather than over-polishing, which was exactly what I asked for. The crystal they sourced is a good fit. The only reason it is not five stars is that the job took slightly longer than I expected, though they did message to say so.

Three projects, described
The Challenge
A hand-wound pocket watch from the 1940s, stopped and corroded
Brought in by a family member of the original owner, the watch had been stored in a drawer for roughly thirty years. The movement had surface rust on several components and the balance staff was damaged. Parts were no longer commercially available.
The Work
After a written assessment covering the full extent of damage, we were given approval to proceed. The balance staff was turned from an appropriate steel rod. Corroded parts were treated and cleaned. The mainspring was replaced. The full movement was serviced, regulated, and run in over several weeks.
The Result
The watch now keeps acceptable time and runs reliably. The original dial and hands were retained without replacement. The project took eleven weeks from assessment to collection.

The Challenge
A 1970s Japanese automatic, scratched case and cracked acrylic crystal
A well-used everyday watch brought in for cosmetic attention only. The movement was running well; the owner wanted to address the surface wear and a hairline crack across the crystal before gifting the watch to a relative.
The Work
We discussed the finish in detail — the owner wanted to retain the brushed finish on the case sides, with a light polish on the lugs only. A new acrylic crystal of the correct height and diameter was sourced and fitted. The case and movement were protected throughout.
The Result
Returned in two and a half weeks. The case looks noticeably better while still appearing its age — which was exactly the intention. The owner expressed particular satisfaction that we did not try to over-polish it.

The Challenge
A Swiss automatic needing a standard service, sent from abroad
An owner based in Singapore sent their watch in by post after reading about the workshop online. The watch was running but sluggish, and the owner wanted a full service before wearing it more regularly.
The Work
A standard full service — disassembly, cleaning, inspection, fresh lubrication, reassembly, and regulation. Amplitude had been notably low before service; after, it was within normal range. The complete process including a run-in period took four weeks.
The Result
The watch was returned by post with full insurance. Rate improved from approximately +45 seconds per day to within +8 seconds. The remote communication process worked smoothly throughout.
